Fetal MRI: A Rare Case of Conjoint Twins.
نویسندگان
چکیده
The antenatal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of a third-trimester primipara patient showed a fetus in a vertical position with two separate heads, a common thorax, abdomen, and pelvis with a single pair of upper and lower limbs [Figure 1]. Both heads appeared equal and symmetric with normal brain development [Figure 2]. Two separate upper cervical spinal cords fused to form a single spinal cord in the mid/lower cervical spine level. There was a single heart present in the thoracic cavity. The intra-abdominal organs appeared normal in position, structure, and number [Figure 1]. The findings were confirmed at delivery [Figure 3]. clinical quiz Oman Medical Journal [2016], Vol. 31, No. 3: 238–239

Thoraco-omphalopagus Conjoint Twin: A Case Report and Literature Review
Conjoined twins are a rare phenomenon of a monochorionic monoamniotic twin. The incidence varies from 1 in 50000 to 1 in 100000 live births [1,2]. Female foetuses are more commonly affected with the ratio of male to female being 1:3, particularly in thoracopagus type [3]. Five types of conjoint twins are classically described, Thoracopagus, Omphalopagus, Pygopagus, Ischiopagus and Craniopagus. ...

Abdullah H, et al. BMJ Case Rep 2017. doi:10.1136/bcr-2017-219793 Description Conjoined twins are very rare with incidence of 1 per 250 000 live births. Fetal MRI is an important adjunct to ultrasound particularly in evaluation of complex fetal anomalies and organ positions. 3 This case report illustrates our first experience in MRI fetal of conjoined twins with the current available sequences....
متن کاملSuccessful Surgical Separation of Thoraco-Omphalopagus Symmetrical Conjoined Twins in Iran: Two Case Reports
Conjoined twins are derived from the division of a single fertilized ovum; a phenomenon accompanied with multiple congenital anomalies. Such twins are identical, of the same sex, and more likely to be female. Most twins die during the embryonic period, and only 18% survive longer than 24 hours. There are complex anomalies in thoraco-omphalopagus twins that makes them unlikely to live long enoug...

متن کاملEarly Prenatal Diagnosis of Conjoined Twins: Case Series
Conjoined twins are described by the conjoint trunk region as a result of defective monozygotic twinning (1). The prevalance ranges from 1 in 50 000 to 1 in 100 000 births in the world. Conjoined twins are incidental and very rarely, uncorrelated with heredity, maternal age and parity (2). Conjoined twins are cathegorized by the location of fusion and are always connected at identical anatomic ...
